A Walk Back in Time

The Dust Bowl Historical Foundation, a non-profit corporate group of local citizens dedicated to preserving the artifacts, lore, and history of the Dust Bowl migration, is working to create a small historical park at the site of the current Sunset Migrant Housing Center .  This site includes three of the original buildings from the 1930s era camp (the Community Center building, the Library and the Post Office) which are the only original buildings left from the Dust Bowl era in any camp in California .  The historical park will include the location of the three buildings to an inviting, grassy area with walkways between the buildings, restrooms for visitors and displays of artifacts.

Inscribed granite bricks are planned to memorialize the men, women and families who migrated to California during the Dust Bowl era.  The bricks will be set into a memorial walkway through the Dust Bowl Historical Park.  The memorial walkway will be built with the inscribed bricks of California Sierra White granite and then edged with bricks of Oklahoma Red granite.

You can pay tribute to our American spirit and immortalize your family or business by sponsoring a memorial brick in the park’s walkway.  Your commemorative brick will be engraved with your inscription for generations to come.

Commemorative bricks are available in two sizes:

             ▪ 4” x 8” brick with three-line inscription - $100.00
and may be inscribed with up to three lines of text
(15 characters and spaces per line maximum).

             ▪ 16” x 16” brick with five-line inscription - $400.00
and may contain up to 5 lines of text
                           (20 characters maximum).
Upon approval, logos may be added to the larger bricks ($75 additional charge).

The bricks will be set into a walkway through the Dust Bowl Historical Park at the Sunset/Weedpatch Camp after placement of the three 1930’s buildings is finalized and the preservation and restoration of buildings is completed.  Your donation is tax deductible.
